Removable drives are the best solution for backing up important data. If your hard disk fails, you can not prevent losing your files, even with the most powerful backup utility on the market. This is why USBsyncer focuses on synchronizing your files between your computer and a removable drive. It provides everything you would expect from a backup and synchronization software and it is very easy to use.

A standard setup procedure, with basic settings, is all you need to go through, before using the software. It works on Windows 2000 and all later versions, up to Windows 7. Its low system requirements allow you to use the application on your computer, even if its hardware is out of date.

Before you reach the main interface, you will have to select a removable device, on a compact window, which displays a pie chart representation of the free and used space on your selected drive. USBsyncer lets you create one or more jobs for backing up files, moving or synchronizing them between a computer and a USB device. Jobs are listed on the lower half of the interface, along with a few basic details and you may create new ones by clicking one of the three options, located on the upper half.

When creating jobs, a wizard will guide you through a few stages. Depending on what type of job you create, the wizard will present different settings. You will not have any difficulties with these settings, because they involve selecting folders, in tree structures, clicking check boxes or radio buttons. If you opt for a synchronization job, you may select one or more pairs of folders, from the hard drive and your removable device. Additionally, you can select a synchronization direction, select an action to handle conflicts automatically, exclude files or their attributes.

If you choose to back up your files, you can set the program to copy the files and nothing else, compress them, encrypt the archive or add a timestamp. You may run the created jobs manually or you can schedule them. The software is capable of executing a job automatically, when you insert your USB drive, shut down the computer or at Windows startup or on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis.

Pros

The software includes everything you need to back up or synchronize your data. You may synchronize in one or both directions and schedule your tasks. USBsyncer can execute a job when you plug in your USB device, shut down or turn on your computer.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to encounter. With USBsyncer, you can make sure your data is backed up on a removable device. Thanks to its smart features, your important files can be synchronized immediately, when you plug in your removable device.
